Virtual Researcher On Call (VROC) is PIR’s primary outreach project. VROC is an educational support tool focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) with a goal to encourage and inspire students to continue in STEM studies toward future career opportunities. The way VROC does that is by connecting students with academic researchers from across Canada using videoconferencing technology. VROC is founded on the belief that education is a team sport requiring participation from a diverse, driven network composed of teachers, researchers, professionals and inquisitive minds. Through VROC, this community engages students, inspires learning and presents a wide variety of career opportunities.STEM Camp has goals similar to our VROC program but is provided in a summer camp format using videoconferencing with researchers as adjuncts to the completion of hands on STEM projects.PIR Live Event was launched in Fall 2014. Teachers and their students can join a PIR Live Event by tuning into a live stream and tweeting questions to #askPIR.Sanofi Biogenius Canada is a national biotechnology research competition founded in 1993 to help advance careers in science among high school students.
