He was actively involved in Operation Desert Storm during the Gulf War and completed his naval career as Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff. After he retired from the Navy he worked in a senior capacity in a number of defence-related export, sales and marketing roles in the private sector.Salt died on 3 December 2009.".
