- Q6598077 abstract "Sree Narayana Trust, Kerala was formed under the aegis of Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam started more than a century ago by the followers of Sree Narayana Guru, the great social reformer , spiritual leader and philosopher of India born in an Ezhava family in Kerala. Guru traveled all over South Indian and Sri Lanka to propagate his teachings among the masses. His sayings included, " Enlighten oneself through education", "Organize and gain strength"," One caste, one religion and one god for man". Guru fought against many of the evils within the Hindu religion and among various castes within it. He started reforming the Ezhava community, the numerically largest one in Kerala within Hindus, but socially marginalized, with his teachings and ended up with reforming the whole Kerala society with new insights on life and progress of mankind. Guru won followers among various segments in Kerala society. His books in verse are well known that include " Atmopadesasatakam", "Daivadasakam", "Arivu" etc. Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam founded schools and colleges in independent India. Previously, the only private colleges were those managed by the Church. The movement started with Sree Narayana College, Kollam. Many educational institutions were started thereafter under the leadership of SNDP Yogam. But as the number of such institutions grew, the Yogam, whose main objective was the propagation of Narayana Guru's vision among the masses, found it increasingly difficult to manage them. Under such circumstances, the Sree Narayana Trust was started for the general management of these institutions.".
