- Q6247642 abstract "Jack McDonald (born 1921) is a footballer who played as a full back in the Football League for Tranmere Rovers. He joined Tranmere after spending some 9 years with Liverpool Football Club, where he played for the first team during the war years. After sustaining a severe knee injury whilst trying to kick an opponent in temper (a family tradition upheld by his eldest son Allan) he briefly joined Wigan Athletic in non-league football before injury and the threat of losing an insurance payout forced his retirement. He was much appreciated by Tranmere fans, who nicknamed him 'dirty Jack Mac' and voted him into the best Tranmere team since the war in the 1960s. He is credited with scoring one own goal, which he vigorously denied, and was dropped briefly for insisting on breaking in sub standard boots provided by the club one at time. This meant that he played with one black boot and one brown, an anomaly not lost on rival fans.".
