He was a Law secretary of Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia, New York City from 1937 to 1940. He was a City Magistrate of New York from 1940 to 1943. He was in the United States Army during World War II, from 1943 to 1945. He was in private practice in New York City from 1945 to 1954.Palmieri was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Palmieri was nominated by President Dwight D. Eisenhower on April 6, 1954, to a new seat created by 68 Stat. 8. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on May 11, 1954, and received his commission on May 12, 1954. He assumed senior status on June 30, 1972. Palmieri served in that capacity until his death, in New York, New York.".
