She faced no opposition in the November 2006 general election. In 2007, Ross was elected as one of the House Democratic Whips. On May 1, 2013, she announced she would resign from the legislature in June, returning to the private sector. On June 1, 2013, Grier Martin was appointed to succeed her.In 2015, Ross resigned from her position as legal counsel at GoTriangle, the regional transit agency. Ross is running for the U.S. Senate in 2016. The seat is currently held by Republican Richard Burr.".
