He was the first LDS Church general authority from Guatemala.Amado was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala. His family joined the LDS Church when he was nine. Initially he was most attracted to the church by the Boy Scout program.Amado was trained as a technical draftsman, but spent most of his career as an employee of the Church Educational System, including 14 years as the area director for Guatemala. Amado was among the first seminary teachers in Guatemala for the LDS Church. He also served as a branch president, bishop, counselor in a stake presidency, stake president, and twice as a regional representative. He was president of the church's Guatemala Guatemala City Mission and, in this capacity, was involved in reopening the El Salvador San Salvador Mission in 1984.Amado was called as a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy in 1989 and transferred to the First Quorum of the Seventy in 1992. Among his assignments as a general authority, he has served in a number of area presidencies, including as president of four different areas (Chile, South America West, South America South and Central America). During the church's October 2014 general conference, Amado was released from the First Quorum of the Seventy and designated an emeritus general authority.Amado married Mayavel Pineda in 1971 and they have five children.".
