- Q5020622 abstract "The California Hydrogen Highway is a planned series of hydrogen refueling stations in California. These stations are used to refuel hydrogen vehicles such as fuel cell vehicles and hydrogen combustion vehicles. As of July 2007, twenty five stations were in operation. Some of these hydrogen fueling stations completed the terms of their government-funded research demonstration project and were decommissioned. As of January 2011, between 25 and 30 were in operation, mostly in and around Los Angeles. In June 2012, the California Energy Commission revoked $27 million in grants for hydrogen filling stations after complaints that the companies authorized to use most of the grant money had largely self-dealt the contracts. By that time, the number of hydrogen filling stations in the state had declined to 23, and only eight of these were "publicly accessible".In 2013, The New York Times reported that there were "10 hydrogen stations available to the public in the entire United States", eight of which were in "Southern California and ... one in Emeryville". In 2013 Governor Brown signed AB 8, a bill to fund $20 million a year for up to 100 stations. As of September 2015, the California Air Resources Board reported that there were 9 public fueling stations open in California and "an additional 18 that have been funded and are expected to be operational in the next few years."".
