Later named WHO Assistant Director-General for Health Systems and Services, one of his main contributions was to advance policy for manpower in health services, especially for low-income countries.He was Director general for Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency from January 2008 to May 2010. He was dismissed as Sida's head in May 2010 amid controversy over fraud and corruption in the agency's development aid program in Zambia, with Nordström singled out for attention over lack of proper management.".
