He was active in the local Farmers and Settlers Association and the land boards. In 1906 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as the Labor member for Castlereagh. He was an honorary minister from 1910 to 1911, when he became Minister for Agriculture. He held that position until 1914. Treflé died in Sydney in 1915.".
