During this battle, he participated in the load carried by the 1st Minnesota Volunteer Infantry brings to General Hancock to arrest Colonel Colville After his first engagement May 4, 1864, He re-engages in the Independent Battalion of Minnesota Cavalry Hatch with the rank of commander. It conducts operations against Northwestern Indians. He was promoted to brigadier general on Sept. 5, 1864 and left the active service June 22, 1866.".
