Tanglewood was the home of Ellison Durant “Cotton Ed” Smith, United States Senator from 1908 to 1944, and Alexander Coke Smith, Bishop of the Methodist Conference from 1902 until 1906.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.".
