- Q1128363 abstract "Construção is a studio album recorded by the Brazilian musician Chico Buarque, in 1971. It represents a great change in the manner of his artistic style. He started to create his own musical style, although surely there is the influence of bossa nova, as one can observe in the song 'Samba de Orly', composed with Toquinho and Vinicius de Moraes.Released during military dictatorship, the album is strongly critical of that kind of government, as one can see in "Deus lhe pague", direct criticism to ditactorship, and "Samba de Orly", on the exile of politicians and artist. In this work, Chico Buarque also criticizes the way of life of the Brazilian workers, comparing them to machines in two songs: "Cotidiano" and "Construção".The album features "Olha Maria", a bittersweet song of stunning beauty also recorded and performed by its cowriter Antonio Carlos Jobim as well as Lee Ritenour, Zimbo Trio and more. Construção ranks Number 3 on Rolling Stone's list of 100 greatest Brazilian albums of all time. The magazine also voted its title-track as the greatest Brazilian song, stating the it "is still a reference to understand a spiny period of Brazilian society". It also ranks Number 54 in the list of the 100 greatest records of the 20th century by German music magazine Spex. On September 2012, it was elected by the audience of Radio Eldorado FM, of Estadao.com e of Caderno C2+Música (both the latter belong to newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo) as the sixth best Brazilian album ever.".
