- The_Like_Young abstract "The Like Young were an indie rock band from Chicago, Illinois. The Like Young were Amanda and Joe Ziemba, married in 2002 and playing music together in various bands since 1997 (most notably Wolfie and Busytoby). The couple formed the band in the spring of 2002 and went on to release their first album, a five-track EP entitled Looked Up Plus Four that same year on Kittridge Records. In the spring of 2003, they released their first full-length album, Art Contest, to mixed but overall not great reviews. Not to be discouraged, Amanda and Joe put their heads together and created So Serious, which was released in the summer of 2004 to very good reviews. In reviewing the album, Tim Sendra of AMG [1] said The Like Young \"are [a] lyrically imaginative and vocally powerful indie rock band[.]\" These first two full-length albums were released on Parasol Records. Their final album, Last Secrets, was released in 2006 on both CD and vinyl by Polyvinyl Record Co.In The Like Young, Amanda played the drums and Joe played the guitar, bass, and occasionally keyboard; both sang, though Joe—who wrote most of the songs—took lead more often. Though their first releases had the instrumentation of a full power-pop group, their later period starting from the Timid EP is marked by a darker, often reverb-heavy guitar-and-drums sound (still with the occasional synth part) that was more easily reproduced live.On August 27, 2006, The Like Young announced their retirement citing the need to move on and make smart decisions. In the announcement Joe mentioned that the decision was a happy one. However, Joe soon returned to music and released Love at 30 in 2008 as Beaujolais; this record addresses the end of the Ziembas' marriage. Joe relocated to Los Angeles after 2009's Admirations; the third Beaujolais album Moeurs is due in 2011.In June 2011, Joe self-released a collection from The Like Young titled \"Fifteen Demos,\" of tracks written and recorded from 2002 to 2006, via Bandcamp. As Joe wrote on Bandcamp, \"I'm saying goodbye to The Like Young. Only this time, I'm doing so with a hug and a smile.\"".
