- Picton_Picturefest abstract "Picton Picturefest was a film festival and \"cinephile retreat\" to be held in Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada in July, 2011. Inspired by a series of festivals put on in Scotland by Tilda Swinton and Mark Cousins, the festival will consist of films, workshops and outdoor activities with community and youth education the common threads throughout. The festival was organized by film journalist Peter Knegt and Toronto International Film Festival employee Jennifer MacFarlane, both of whom grew in the Picton area. Together with a collective of film professionals and media artists from Toronto, Ontario, Knegt and MacFarlane have organized 13 film programs, including Clio Barnard's \"The Arbor\" Mike Ott's \"Littlerock,\" Cameron Yates' \"The Canal Street Madam,\" Daniel Cockburn's \"You Are Here\" and Canadian omnibus documentary \"The National Parks Project.\" As well, Swinton and Cousins made a contribution by selecting Jacques Tati's \"M. Hulot's Holiday\" as the opening night film.Beyond the films, there will be a 4-day immersive filmmaking workshop for youth, which will turn participants into a mini film crew with the help of two established Toronto-based filmmakers, Stephen Dunn and Pat Mills (both of whom have screened work at the Toronto International Film Festival). By the end of the festival, those in the workshops will be able to screen the culmination of their work during our closing night festivities.A second edition is set for July 2014.".
