- Partnership_for_Advanced_Computing_in_Europe abstract "PRACE, the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe was established in 2010 to create a persistent pan-European Research Infrastructure (RI) of world-class supercomputers. This infrastructure is currently made up of six leading edge machines, hosted by four member countries, (France, Germany, Spain and Italy) and accessible through an open peer-review process, complemented by national resources operated and accessible via High Performance Computing (HPC) centres throughout Europe. This partnership powers excellent science and engineering in academia and industry, addressing society’s grand challenges. Open to all disciplines of research, and industry for open R&D, the PRACE infrastructure is a vital catalyst in fostering European competitiveness. To keep pace with the dynamic needs of a variety of scientific communities and numerous technical changes and developments, PRACE hosting members’ systems are continuously updated and upgraded to make most advanced HPC technologies accessible to European scientists and industry. PRACE is a Belgian international not for profit organisation (aisbl) with its seat in Brussels. The PRACE research infrastructure includes supercomputers in all major architectural classes. This PRACE peer-review process is overseen by the Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) composed of leading European researchers who advise on scientific and technical matters. Industrial users, with head offices or substantial R&D activity located in Europe, are eligible to apply and undergo the same review. The PRACE Access Committee ranks awarded projects and guides resource allocation. An Industrial Advisory Committee (IAC), composed of representatives from multinational and small enterprises from eleven industrial sectors, assists PRACE on maximising HPC usage to foster European competitiveness and economic growth. PRACE receives user feedback via the PRACE User Forum, an independent forum where users discuss and share their experience. The Implementation Phase of PRACE receives funding from the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under grant agreement RI-312763 and from the EU’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (2014-2020) under grant agreement 653838.".
