- Hurling_Club_of_Madison abstract "The Hurling Club of Madison was founded by Jason Kenney in 2007. Jason and his brother John brought a signup sheet to the Madison, WI St. Patrick's Day Parade where they met Bill Jones. The three held the club's first practice a few weeks later and soon recruited members Chris Lane, Tom Isenbarger and Ben Bares. The first year ended with the club traveling to Milwaukee for a friendly match against a few Milwaukee Hurling Club members on a short field using small team rosters. In 2008 the club focused on growing membership and by Spring they were able to participate in a developmental tournament held in Chicago. Also in 2008 the club hosted hurling clubs from Milwaukee, Minneapolis, and Chicago (Cusacks) in what has become an annual Midwest Hurling Tournament held each year in Madison. The 2008 & 2009 tournaments were held at Olbrecht Park in Madison. In 2010 the tournament was held at Heistad Park. The tournament has been held at the Madison Rugby Complex in Cottage Grove each year since 2011.In 2009 the club had its first Summer Hurling League with 2 teams playing 4 games on the football practice fields at James Madison Memorial High School. The club has had a summer league in every subsequent year, moving games out the Madison Rugby Complex in Cottage Grove, WI in 2011.In the winter of 2011 the club held its first indoor hurling league. It was played at Hitters Sports Complex which was an indoor baseball facility. The indoor hurling league was not held in 2012, however, because Hitters was later remodeled into a tennis facility. Indoor hurling returned in 2013 in the Keva indoor soccer facility in Middleton, WI. A yearly indoor league is held at Keva from January-March throughout every winter. In 2015 the Hurling Club of Madison permitted members to conduct Gaelic Football operations under the club's name and affiliation with the GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association). The football players hold a yearly summer and winter (indoor) league and participate in the end of the year tournament held by the NACB (North American County Board). The Hurling Club of Madison plays in many tournaments every summer including those hosted by Minnesota, Chicago, Indianapolis, Fox River (WI) & Naperville, IL. The club also participates in the end of the year tournament held by the NACB (North American County Board).
