He studied musical composition at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, Ohio.He regularly performs his solo piano compositions at a McDonald's fast-food restaurant in downtown Manhattan for which he was featured in a New York Times article titled \"Quarter Pounder With Keys\" and as the “Best Pianist in a Fast-Food Restaurant” in the Village Voice. Recent performances include appearances at The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, Le Poisson Rouge and Gracie Mansion (New York City), TED Kraków and the Exit Festival in Novi Sad, Serbia. His music has been heard on radio throughout North America and Europe including KCRW Radio, Los Angeles. He has also composed and licensed music for a wide variety of film, television and theater projects.Shapiro releases his recordings through Airbox Music, a label he founded in 2002. His music is published by Airbox Music Publishing (ASCAP).Shapiro lives in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, New York City.".
