- Alliance_of_Patriots_of_Georgia abstract "The \"Alliance of Patriots of Georgia\" (shortly named as the \"Georgian Patriots\") is a political party, founded on December 19, 2012, with the state registration, carried out on January 22, 2013.The party was founded by David Tarkhan-Mouravi, former Head of the \"Resistance Movement\", which was fighting against Saakashvili’s criminal regime and abuse of prisoners in the period of his reign, and Irma Inashvili, former Head of the \"Objective\" TV/Radio media union, as well as by other active members of the \"Resistance Movement\", public figures and well-known journalists. The \"Alliance of Patriots of Georgia\" aims to promote in society center-right ideology, conservative spirit and Georgian culture and traditions, as well as democratic values. The party stands for the formation in Georgia of a post-industrial economy, based on knowledge industry, and of an open democratic society, based on human and Christian values.Today the \"Alliance of Patriots of Georgia\" has the status of a qualified political party. In Georgia, such a status is assigned only to those political parties, which succeeded to surpass a 5-percent threshold in municipal or parliamentary elections and possess municipal or parliamentary deputies. After the party’s state registration in the beginning of 2013, only one municipal election was held in Georgia, which took place in summer 2014. But because of being at that moment in its formative stage, the party was able to put forward its candidates for this election only in a half of the municipal districts of Georgia. Summarily in all these districts the party gained 12,8 percent of votes. However, when this figure was divided into all districts, including those, in which the party was unable to participate, the final average percentage of the party across the country came to 5,7 percent of votes. In 2015, there were held by-elections for single mandate constituencies in the two districts of Georgia, namely, in Sagarejo and Martvili. And the party’s candidate in Sagarejo district gained 46 percent of votes, while its candidate in Martvili district obtained 27,5 percent of votes. However, the \"Alliance of Patriots of Georgia\" is officially declaring that the by-election in Sagarejo district was falsified, and that this massive electoral fraud was organized and implemented personally by the Minister of Defense, Tinatin Khidasheli. As its candidate for Sagarejo by-election, the \"Alliance of Patriots of Georgia\" put forward Irma Inashvili, who was participating in this election along with the \"Republican\" candidate from the ruling \"Georgian Dream\" coalition, Tamar Khidasheli. During the election, the Minister of Defense, Tinatin Khidasheli, who is the member of the \"Republican Party\" in the ruling \"Georgian Dream\" coalition, just like her relative electoral candidate Tamar Khidasheli, used administrative military resources in favor of the candidate from the governing coalition and was personally counting ballots and drawing up overall protocols. Not only Irma Inashvili and the \"Alliance of Patriots of Georgia\" declared that the by-election in Sagarejo district was falsified, - MP Gogi Topadze, who is one of the leaders of the \"Georgian Dream\" coalition, made the same statement directly on TV. And the Deputy Minister of Diaspora Issues, Sandro Bregadze, who as well is the member of the ruling coalition, even had to resign from his post due to his public statements about the massive electoral fraud, which happened in Sagarejo district.Defense Minister’s interference in the electoral process was criticized by the radio \"Tavisupleba\" (Freedom), the \"International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy\", by different newspapers, such as the \"Kronika\" (Chronicle) and \"Sakartvelo da Msoplio\" (Georgia and the World), as well as by \"Kakheti Information Center\", the \"Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association\" and different experts and non-governmental organizations. And the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has recently launched an investigation into the case of the massive electoral fraud in Sagarejo district. The investigation was launched under the article 332, paragraph 1 (abuse of official position) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, and is based on the appeal of the non-governmental organization \"Transparency International Georgia\", which refers to MP Gogi Topadze’s public statements, who blames the Minister of Defense in the falsification of Sagarejo election. The \"Alliance of Patriots of Georgia\" is positioning itself as the largest and strongest opposition party in Georgia. Over the 3 years of its existence, the party organized and held several large-scale protest actions. In December 2014, in the party’s rally in Batumi participated 12,000 people. In January 2015, the party gathered 25,000 people during its demonstration in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, and in November 2015, in the same city the party gathered 18,500 people during its rally against the massive electoral fraud in Sagarejo district. Also on November 2015, the \"Alliance of Patriots of Georgia\" announced and started a long-term hunger strike action to protest against the massive electoral fraud, which lasted for 16 days, and more than 103 people took part in this protest action, starving under an open sky along with the leaders of the party. At the moment, the party is preparing for the Parliamentary Election, which will be held on October 2016, and this would be the first parliamentary election in the history of the party’s existence. According to the results of the \"EPN Research\" company, which is specializing in public opinion studies and has recently conducted a survey with the aim to identify what political parties are preferred by the Georgian population and whom they are going to vote for in Parliamentary Election 2016, today the \"Alliance of Patriots of Georgia\" is the major opposition force in the country. The survey was held in large cities and towns of Georgia, namely, in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, as well as in Batumi, Kutaisi, Zugdidi, Gori, and Telavi. Respondents were selected throughout the country among the Georgian-speaking population, under the principle of randomness, and the survey was conducted through a \"face-to-face\" interview method in Georgian language.".
