It was to be fitted with an engine called GD-1, an eight-cylinder 1500 cc DOHC engine giving 200 hp (150 kW) at 10,500 rpm. Already during the first test the engine produced 162 hp (121 kW) at 6000 rpm. The engine was fitted with four dual Weber carburettors and the total weight was 158 kg (348 lb). The G5 was also the first Russian car with disk brakes on all wheels. The fibreglass body was designed using a wind tunnel. However, funding was cut so the car had to be fitted with an inline-4 engine from the Moskvitch 412, but fitted with a new DOHC head and two twin Weber 40DCO carburetors. This engine produced 100 hp (75 kW). Modifications in 1970 raised the power to 112 hp (84 kW). Displacement was increased to 1840 cc in 1972, and to 1948 cc (now producing 140 hp (100 kW)) in 1974. A fiberglass body was also added in 1974, and the cars were redesignated as G5M. The G5M was raced until 1976."@en }
