- L%C3%A1szl%C3%B3_Dombrovszky abstract "László Dombrovszky (Orhei, near Kishinev, August 7, 1894 – Budapest, April 30, 1982) was a Hungarian artist of Polish origin. Born as Stanisław Dombrowski in the family of the Polish forest exploitation engineer in Bessarabia (Eastern Moldova), then in the tsarist Russia, László Dombrovszky was a Hungarian painter influenced by the French School of Paris. He learned to speak Hungarian as a small boy in Moldowa. During the Soviet revolution Dombrovszky escaped to Paris, and while his father was deported to a Gulag where he died, and the rest of the family was persecuted by the Bolsheviks, he studied art. He was the only one to survive. In 1921 Dombrovszky settled down in Hungary taking the name of László Dombrovszky and becoming a known portrait artist and a landscape painter. He is know today for his painted in September 1944, one of the few existing portraits of Raoul Wallenberg. Wallenberg posed only two times for his portrait (this is known from his diary kept by the Soviets after his death), so Dombrovszky painted him mainly from a small driving license photograph. Wallenberg's portrait by Dombrovszky is today in Sweden, in the Gripsholm Castle near Stockholm, as a part of the National Portrait Collection (Statens porträttsamlingar) presenting important personalities from the Sweden history.László Dombrovszky died in 1982.".
