- Red_Eye_Records abstract "Red Eye Records is an independent record store and mail order business, located in Sydney, Australia. Established in 1981, it is the largest indie store in the country. The store is presently located at 143 York Street, in the Sydney CBD. It often hosts free, all ages live performances by a variety of artists. From 1985, Red Eye Records also existed as an independent record label started by graphic designer John Foy. Its debut release was a solo single from ex-Hoodoo Gurus drummer James Baker issued as The James Baker Experience. It also ran two other spin off labels Black Eye Records and Third Eye. The label went on to release The Cruel Sea, John Kennedy's Love Gone Wrong, The Bhagavad Guitars, The Beasts of Bourbon, The Crystal Set, Steve Kilbey, Curious (Yellow), Deniz Tek, Robert Frost, Growl, The Tall Shirts, The Clouds, Drop City, The Scientists and Kim Salmon and the Surrealists. In 1990 the label was distributed through Polydor who later acquired Red Eye, closing it as an imprint moving some acts across to Universal.Red Eye Records won the ARIA Award for Outstanding Independent Retailer in 2012 & 2013.".
