- Meadowfair abstract "Meadowfair is a small, active neighborhood in San Jose, California. Located in the East Side of San Jose, its crime rate has risen over the years. Although it is said to be apart of Evergreen it does not receive the same support from its council member/ Vice mayor Rose Herrera that Evergreen does. All improvements during Vice mayor's term including 2 librarys,on going community events ie: summer movie nights and so on have only been seen in Evergreen .Capitol Expressway seems to be where she has decided that the two communities becomes distinctly divided. During Vice Mayor Herrera's term she has used Capitol Expressway as a land marker to clearly define the haves and have nots/those she never cared about. Nonetheless, Meadowfair is one of the few communities on the east side that has an active and engaged neighborhood association. The Association of Meadowfair Community(AMC)board is compiled of hardworking, dedicated, nonpaid, resident volunteers that care about the betterment of their community and are committed to seeing change. The Association of Meadowfair Community(AMC) neighborhood association meets regularly at the Meadowfair Community Center located at 2696 South King Rd. Meetings are held monthly on the LAST Wednesday of each month at 7pm. Meetings are attended by representatives that serve the Meadowfair community.Representatives from the local, county and state level ie council members, county supervisors, state legislators, and assembly member are available to provide the community with the opportunity to engage and better Meadowfair. The AMC holds events such as "Kids and Cocoa" where it teams up with the FamilyGivingTree to provide free gifts to needy residents for Christmas. Other events include Easter Eggstravaganza- a free family friendly event guaranteed to have over a 1000 hidden Easter eggs, free food games and prizes,Safe Trick or Treat a community guided neighborhood tour/ trick or treat event with a safety awareness component aimed at providing the children of Meadowfair with a safe Halloween experience and opportunity to meet and engage with their neighbors in a safe environment(candy, trick or treat bags, glow sticks, arts and crafts, food and fun included) and National Night Out (NNO)the Association of Meadowfair Community biggest event. National Night Out is a crime and drug prevention event that is sponsored nationally by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the San Jose Police Department. NNO takes place the first Tuesday of August. AMC's NNO takes place on Enesco Ave(block party style). This event is a highlight in the Meadowfair community with games prizes, food ,contest and lots of fun.Other events include dumpster days and neighborhood clean up(volunteers are always welcome). These events are open to all Meadowfair residents(see Meadowfair map located on Nextdoor.com for boundaries). Meadowfair is in District 8 of San Jose and adjacent to Eastridge Mall. This neighborhood has a significantly high percentage of Mexican Americans in the area of East San Jose very similar to King and Story neighborhood less than a mile away down King Rd. Parking is notoriously bad, as many houses have more than one family, with several cars per person. This area is noted for being shaped like a piano, and the street names have a musical theme.".
