- Gorchani abstract "Gorshani (Gorchani) is a Baloch tribe from Lal Garh(Rajanpur), Pakistan.Maulana Noor Mohammad Khan Faridi, in his book " Baloch qaum aur uski Tareekh" narrates that Mir Jalal Khan is considered to be the ancestor of all 44 tribes of Balochs. He had five sons namely; 1. Mir Rind, 2. Mir Lashar, 3. Mir Korai, 4. Mir Jatan, 5. Mir Hote. Mir Shahiq (or Mir Ishaq) was the eldest son of Mir Rind. It is believed that Mir Doda, an exiled ruler of a state near Nerone Kote (Hyderabad), took refuge with Mir Shahiq who treated him nicely & gave his daughter into marriage with Mir Doda. Gorish (or Guarish, meaning rain in Balochi) was Mir Doda's only son who subsequently laid the foundation of Gorshani tuman (state) in District Rajanpur of South Punjab. Gorshanis & Mazaris are related to each other as Gorish was maternal grandson of Mir Shahiq while ancestor of Mazaris was his paternal grandson. Around 1545 AD Moghul king Humayoun was marching on Delhi with the help of Emperor of Iran. When he reached Sibi, Mir Shahiq welcomed him by providing him with an army under the command of his able son Mir Chakar. Gorish was also accompanying his maternal uncle Mir Chakar as one of his commanders with fighters of Petafi, Sohriani, Durkani, Lashari, Chang, Hulwani, Jiskani, Jogiani & Bazgir clans under his flag. After conquest of Delhi, Humayoun offered all Baloch chieves to settle around Delhi but they preferred to return to their barren homeland. Gorish chose to settle in the mountains of Mari & Dragal in district Rajanpur by ousting Afghans from this area. In the years to come, Gorshanis expanded their area by occupying the plains of Harrand & Dajal and also move to Lund area near to KALA and Zinda peer area These people normally call there self as Gurchani instead of Gorshani. They were endorsed as rulers of the area by Ahmad Shah Abdali of Iran through his Viceroy Mir Naseer Khan Noori, the Khan of Qalat. With the fall of Multan at the hands of Sikhs, Gorshanis kept on fighting guerilla warfare with Sikhs and twice ransacked Harrand fort. The British were fortunate enough to find Gorshanis & Khosas as staunch enemies of Sikhs and it is with their help that Major Edwards conquered Multan around 1850 AD. In his book " A year on the Punjab frontiers" he has paid great tribute to bravery & chivalry of Gorshanis under their chief Sardar Ghulam Haider Khan. Gorshanis built their fort at Lalgarh & the chief family is still settled their. Gorshanis are a considerable political force in Rajanpur district along with Mazaris & Dreshaks. Nawabzada Sardar Mohammad Hassan Khan (the able son of Nawab Jallab Khan) represented the tribe in Punjab Legislative Assembly from 1937 to 1945 while Sardar Athar Hassan Khan son of Sardar Akhtar Hassan & Sardar Sher Ali Khan son of Sardar Parvez Khan were elected as Members of Punjab Provincial Assembly in year 2008. Presently, Sardar Sher Ali Khan is Deputy Speaker of Punjab Assembly. Sardar Akhtar Hassan Khan has represented the tribe in Police Service of Pakistan on various top positions. The present chief of the tribe is Sardar Shahiq Haider Khan. The 14 branches of Gorshanis are as follows: 1. Jallabani (chief family of the tribe) 2. Shaklani 3. Shehkani 4. Hotwani 5. Khalilani 6. Jiskani 7. Petafi 8. Sohrani 9. Chang 10. Jogiani 11.Hulwani 12. Bazgir of Sardar Shahid Baloch 13. Lashari 14. Durkani".
