It is situated approximately 11 miles (18 km) to the east of the city of York and 3.5 miles (6 km) north-west of the town of Pocklington.Together with Bolton the village forms the civil parish of Fangfoss with Bolton.The parish church of St Martin was designated a Grade II* listed building in January 1967 and is now recorded in the National Heritage List for England, maintained by Historic England.
