His best-known poem, The Sandy Hollow Line, described the hardships of unemployed workers who were given 'sustenance' or 'susso' work construction the Sandy Hollow Maryvale Railway during the Great Depression. The poem was set to music by John Dengate and subsequently recorded by a number of artists including Warren Fahey.Tritton was a founding member of the Sydney Bush Music Club.
