It lies between Kolar and Mulbagal on the Old Madras Highway.Devarayasamudra is the main village in Ashtagrama (eight villages). These eight villages were allotted by the King of Vijayanagara Empire, Krishnadevaraya and hence the name Devarayasamudram.
