- Q8052621 abstract "Yermal is a village in Udupi district of Karnataka state in India, between Uchila and Padubidri on National Highway 17. There are two parts to Yermal, one is Tenka (meaning "south" in Tulu) and the other Bada or Badagu (meaning "north" in Tulu). There is a Janardhana temple in this village. It has two Mosques and several other small temples also, historical Jain basadhi (temple) is located at the highest place in the heart of the village. The yermal Janardhan car festival and the butharadhana, nemosthavas are famous festivals. The history of Yermal village is unique. It has been told that Yermal was covered by Sea and Rivers from 3 sides. Almost 75% of the present geographical area was under water before 1400 years. This area was ruled by Jain Family of Padma Indra (grandfather of GummannaIndra, fore grandfather of Dharanendra kumara Indra) who came to this land from Gujarath province for trading spices, gold and cereals. During their ruling a lot of Jain digamber "muni"s used to visit this Yermal for preaching of Jainism. Later on the fore fathers of Shri Nabiraja Arasu (Grand Father of Present Ashoka Raja Arasu) appointed a village accountant Shri Shaikh Yusuf Khan who was the architect of this modern Yermal. There was one river flowing from east part of Innanje which flows through Yermal and merge itself with Arabian Sea in the west side. The large area was always affected badly by floods. As to develop the area Shri Yusuf Khan drafted the master plan and diverted the river from Innanje by blocking the water flow to west region. This has impacted the water flow and most of the area uncovered for cultivation. It was told that earlier the name of Yermal was called as "Perumal" but Shri Khan renamed the area as Yerumal which now turned as Yermal. Another version says that this village is earlier called Yerumadu, meaning to raised land which is now called Yermal. The village has 4 primary and high schools and Pre University College.".
