The Academy is the first Roman Catholic all through Academys from Reception to Year 12 and is a specialist college in Business and Enterprise under the Specialist School's Trust. The Principal of the Academy is Mr. Michael Barry. St Matthew Academy has three Houses: Romero, Teresa and Mandela, named after Archbishop Oscar Romero, Mother Teresa of Calcutta and Nelson Mandela. The Academy since opening has been responsible for a dramatic increase in results at GCSE. In 2010 results rose by 21% making the Academy the most improved school in Lewisham and South London.".
