His father had been MP for Bridgnorth. He succeeded to the baronetcy on the death of his father in 1653.In 1661, Whitmore was elected Member of Parliament for Bridgnorth for the Cavalier Parliament. He held the seat until his death in 1699.Whitmore died aged 61.Whitmore married Mary Harvey, daughter of Elias Harvey of London. He died without issue and the baronetcy became extinct".
