- Q7516794 abstract "Template:ForSilverstream Is an affluent suburb of Upper Hutt with a small village of shops. It is in the lower North Island of New Zealand at the southern end of the city close to the Taita Gorge, which separates Upper Hutt from Lower Hutt. Silverstream is sited at the mouth of a small valley formed by the Wellington Region's notable tectonic activity and, in part, by Hull's Creek, which discharges into the Hutt River.Educational facilities in Silverstream include Silverstream Kindergarten, Silverstream School and St. Patrick's College.Silverstream is on the Wairarapa and Hutt Valley Railway Lines, with half-hourly daytime electric services operated by Tranz Metro, which reach Lower Hutt in around 15 minutes and Wellington in around 35 minutes. Many commuters, however, still use their cars.In Silverstream is the Silver Stream Railway, a heritage railway operating a number of preserved locomotives that formerly worked on New Zealand's national rail network. One of these locomotives is a C class engine of 1885. The railway periodically holds special themed days, such as a "Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends Day", and these are particularly popular with children. The line was part of the Wairarapa Line before a deviation was opened in 1954. The area is also served by Silverstream Railway Station.Silverstream is bordered to the east by Pinehaven, a picturesque valley adjacent to Silverstream, set further back into the eastern pine clad hills. Its focus points are the large reserve and Pinehaven school.Silverstream enjoys warm summer temperatures of low 20 Celsius and mild winters of around 14 Celsius. Sport is a major part of both Silverstream and Pinehaven. Often bicycle groups can be seen cycling around the suburb and in the shopping village. A tennis club. A gym including physiotherapy. Rugby which is played at the grounds of the local St Pat's College.".
