He was the flag carrier for the Iranian Olympic delegation, carrying the flag with only one hand.He left Iran after Islamic Revolution and joined the parliament-in-exile, National Council of Resistance of Iran.He has a special arm band as an Iranian National Hero. He also has a total of 17 gold, silver, and bronze medals which he received from International Games.Mr. Filabi won 2 Asian Games gold medals and 2 in Tehran Nationals. He has 4 gold medals from wrestling in 2 Asian Games which equals Abdollah Movahed in Asian games gold medals. He is also the only Iranian wrestler who wrestled, and won a medal, in 5 styles of wrestling: Freestyle, Greco-Roman, Sambo, Pahlevani-style, and "Chookheh" (an ethnic-style traditional to Northern Iran).He has a B.A. from Teachers Training College in Iran (Donesh-sarayeh Aleh) M.A. from George Washington University. After his wrestling career, he was a Dean of Physical Education at the University of Ferdowsi, [Mashhad, Iran]. The reason being that he was an avid supporter of the Shah of Iran as well as the Islamic Republic of Iran until his brother in law was killed. Then he became a Mujaheddin.
