In October 1979 he was appointed Bornu State Commissioner for Works and Housing by the Greater Nigerian People's Party (GNPP) government of Bornu State under Governor Mohammed Goni.In 1983 he was the gubernatorial candidate of the GNPP in Bornu State.Abba-Gana became a wealthy man.For several years he was on the board of the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA).".
