It grows alongside plants such as eastern red cedar (Juniperus virginiana), tamarack (Larix laricina), redbay (Persea borbonia), sweetbay (Magnolia virginiana), flowering dogwood (Cornus florida), dangleberry (Gaylussacia frondosa), yaupon (Ilex vomitoria), fetterbush (Leucothoe racemosa), and blueberry (Vaccinium spp.).".
