- Q5013829 abstract "The CRASH-B Sprints is the world championship for indoor rowing raced over a distance of 2,000 m on Concept2 indoor rowers. It is held every February in Boston, Massachusetts, recently at Boston University's Agganis Arena. Previous venues have included the Reggie Lewis Track and Field Center and Harvard's Newell Boathouse. The race began in 1980 by several former US Olympic rowers. The CRASH-B Sprints are officially sponsored by Concept 2. Originally the name of the race, C.R.A.S.H.-B., stood for the Charles River Association of Sculling Has-Beens. It has been amended to Charles River All-Star Has-Beens. The racing format has evolved over the history of the event. Now, all athletes race over 2,000 meters only once. Previously, there were heats and finals and other distances (2,500 m, 5 and 6 miles) were raced. There are, as of the 2008 competition, 58 different categories. These include lightweight and heavyweight, juniors and masters. The current record holder for fastest 2,000 m time is New Zealand's Rob Waddell with a time of 5:36.6, set in 2008, but not at CRASH-B.".
