- Q4954335 abstract "Brad Voth is a Canadian-born former Ice Hockey player. Brad started his career as a junior hockey player with the 'Medicine Hat Tigers' team in 1996 in the WHL. In the 1998 NHL Entry Draft he was selected by St. Louis Blues, going on to play In the American Hockey League, the ECHL and finally the Elite Ice Hockey League in the UK for the Cardiff DevilsAn imposing figure at 6"5 and 235 lbs, Voth played tough hockey, in a style not always seen in the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL). His role in the Cardiff Devils was your textbook 'enforcer', demonstrated by his significant PIM totals since joining the league. He won the EIHL 'Most Penalised Player' award four out of five years, yet continued to rack up the points scoring goals when it mattered. Voth carried an impressive presence on the ice and was perhaps one of the league’s most well-known players. Adored by fans of his former team, the Cardiff Devils and somewhat hated by opposition teams in the Elite Ice Hockey League who disliked his rough playing style and his ability to rile players on opposing teams. In January 2007 Voth took over the Captaincy of the Cardiff Devils and held it for three years before being relieved of it in February 2010.Voth sustained a nerve injury in a game vs Belfast at the end of 2011 and sat out for several weeks until 4 February 2012 when it was announced on the Cardiff Devils website that Voth would retire with immediate effect and would begin work with the Fire Service. In this final game (which was dubbed 'Brad Voth night')the crowd chanted 'Shoe off if you love Brad Voth' with them holding their shoe up in respect for their hero, which also included the visiting Braehead Clan fans.Following his retirement, his jersey number #26 was retired by the Devils.".
