- Q4011366 abstract "Immersive videos, more recently known as 360 videos or 360 degree videos, are video recordings of a real-world scene, where the view in every direction is recorded at the same time. During playback the viewer has control of the viewing direction. Generally the only area that can't be viewed is the view toward the camera support, but there are ways around this in post-production (E.g. 'patching' the Nadir with a logo, or using a still shot taken from the same position as the 360 Camera rig. The material is recorded as data which when played back through a software player allows the user control of the viewing direction and playback speed. Player control is typically achieved via moving the device (e.g Smartphones, HMDs, etc) from which gyroscope or Infrared sensors translate into movement. When viewing from a desktop pc, either a mouse or keypad is used for interactivity and playback view is typically 4:3 window on a computer display or projection screen or other presentation device such as a head mounted display. An example of an immersive video is provided by the Kogeto Dot panoramic video capture device and associated online community for smartphones, for the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and for the Galaxy Nexus with the Kogeto Dot 360-degree panoramic video accessory. As of 2016, 360 videos are starting to become more famous, especially on YouTube. Some famous 360 videos are those of YouTubers such as Casey Neistat. Sometimes the phrase "immersive video" is used to describe full-size teleconferencing capabilities, such as Cisco's Telepresence product. There are a few ways to capture 360-degree video. One of the more popular ways is placing 6 GoPros around a specially made rig that can be purchased online or printed on a 3-D printer. After setting up the cameras, the video can then be recorded. The individual video files must then be stitched together using editing software, such as Autopano Video or VideoStitch. Then, the stitched file must be injected with 360 degree metadata from Google. After that, the video is able to be uploaded to YouTube or Facebook. There are still some significant issues with 360-degree video. For example, the stitching is not always seamless, and there are other obvious issues such as linear editing. However, in time, this medium will be a very exciting way to experience media.".
