He has served several terms in the Jatiyo Sangshad, the national parliament of Bangladesh. He served as the Foreign Minister in the Cabinet from October 2001 until a caretaker government took office to prepare for new elections in October 2006.He is the owner of Citycell, the first mobile phone service provider in South Asia, Pacific Motors, a car dealership, and Arab Bangladesh Bank, one of the first banks in Bangladesh.".
