Proteins can, thus, be separated by net charge in a polyacrylamide gel using either QPNC-PAGE or isoelectric focusing, which uses a pH gradient to separate proteins. Isoelectric focusing is also the first step in 2-D gel polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.".
