- Q20722749 abstract "Dragan Bender (born November 17, 1997) is a Croatian 2.15 m (7 ft 0.5) tall Power forward/Center who plays for Maccabi Tel Aviv of the Israeli Super League.Bender was born in Capljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, he would grow up in Split, Croatia with his best friend Ante Žižić, future teammate in the Junior Croatian teams. He grew up idolizing Toni Kukoc – watching old videos of him from the NBA, Euroleague and Yugoslavian and Croatian national teams. He played for the KK Split Youth Team in his late teens. Bender was also a member of the Croatian U-18 National Team. In 2014, Maccabi Tel Aviv signed Bender to a seven-year contract. Specifically, his contract allows him up to four regular years with Maccabi Tel Aviv, with three extra years allowed as an option. Despite this fact, Bender is still projected to be a top-3 lottery selection in the 2016 NBA Draft. In 2015 he was called up by the Croatian national team for the 2015 FIBA Under-19 World Championship in Crete, but he was forced to withdraw because Croatia players were obliged to wear Jordan Brand clothes and shoes due to a sponsorship agreement and Bender had signed a similar agreement with his sponsor Adidas, which prevented him to wear other brands. [1]Croatia eventually lost in the final against Team U.S.A.".
