- Q16258463 abstract "Tsubasa Kato (born 8 Sep 1984) is a name of the Japanese contemporary artist. He has made his debut at the exhibition “Roppongi Crossing 2010” at the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo and received the Kengo Kuma Prize, after earning M.F.A from the Tokyo National University of the Arts. In 2015, he received a fellowship from the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan Government and participated in Japan-US Exchange Friendship Program in the Arts as Visitor Research Scholar of University of Washington in Seattle for two years. One of his major interactive creative projects, Pull & Raise, has been ongoing since 2007. As it states in how it’s titled, “Pull and Raise” is a project where many people, occasionally strangers or passersby, pull up or down a large structure with ropes attached to it. The process of building up a large structure is almost impossible to accomplish alone; it always contains some portion of joined forces with others. More so, the very action to pull a large structure naturally becomes a catalyst towards that challenge, arising involvement and cooperation to the work itself. In the past, the “Pull and Raise” project has been performed all over Japan throughout South Korea, Malaysia, France, and United States.".
