He went on to run for Governor of Wisconsin in 1914 and 1926, losing to Emanuel L. Philipp and Fred R. Zimmerman. In 1928, Emerson was an unsuccessful candidate for the United States Senate. He lost to incumbent Robert M. La Follette, Jr. Emerson was a member of the Prohibition Party and a native of Ashland, Wisconsin.".
