On his maternal side he is a direct decedent of Anthony Joseph Drexel, founder of Drexel-Burnham-Lambert. He maintains associations with Drexel University and Carnegie Mellon University, both of which were founded by family members. Matthew is also involved with the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, the core of whose collection was donated to the nation by his Great Uncle Andrew Mellon.Mellon has worked as an entrepreneur, founder, private equity investor with a focus on the luxury and Oil space. Amongst the companies with which he has been involved are Jimmy Choo, Harrys of London, Hanley Mellon, Marquis Jets, and Arrival Aviation.
