Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, Snooks attended Lehigh University and became famous for his performance in "The Rivalry" between Lehigh and Lafayette College. In 1918, Snooks, playing halfback for Lehigh, completed a 115-yard touchdown run. According to the story, Dowd ran the wrong way, circled his own goalposts, and went the right way 100 yards to score.
