- Q137217 abstract "1236 Thaïs, provisional designation 1931 VX, is a rare type of asteroid from the inner regions of the asteroid belt, about 20 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 6 November 1931, by Soviet–Russian astronomer Grigory Neujmin at the Simeiz Observatory on the Crimean peninsula. The dark and reddish T-type asteroid orbits the Sun at a distance of 1.8–3.0 AU once every 3 years and 9 months (1,384 days). Its orbit shows a high eccentricity of 0.24 and is tilted by 13 degrees to the plane of the ecliptic. It has a notably long rotation period of 72 hours and an albedo in the range of 0.06 to 0.08, according to the surveys carried out by IRAS, Akari, and WISE/NEOWISE.It was later named after the famous Greek hetaera Thaïs who lived during the time of Alexander the Great and accompanied him on his campaigns.".
