- Q1116933 abstract "Andringitra National Park is national park in the Haute Matsiatra Region of Madagascar, 47 km (29 mi) south of Ambalavao. Approximately 140 km (87 mi) of the Tropic of Capricorn crosses the park. The park was established in 1999 and is managed by the Madagascar National Parks Association. It is known for its rough terrain, which includes the mountain peak Imarivolanitra (formerly Pic Boby) at 2658 m (8,720 ft), as well as deep valleys and ridges. It is also one of the most biologically diverse and endemic places in all of Madagascar; over 100 different species of birds, over 50 species of mammals, and 55 species of frogs are known to inhabit the park. Andringitra's ring tailed lemur population has notably thicker fur than the rest of the island's population. This is likely an adaptation to the colder climate at high altitudes. It was inscribed in the World Heritage Site in 2007 as part of the Rainforests of the Atsinanana.According to a local guide, the park receives around 12,000 visitors a year.".
