In 1991 he donated the seaplane base, trailer park and waterfront area to the Town of Cortlandt. The 26 acres (110,000 m2) of land was given with an agreement that the trailer park would remain open until 10 years after his death, at which time the town will it into a park. Martin had been offered $5.5 million by a developer looking to build condominiums on the property.Martin died on July 3, 2006 in his Greenwich, Connecticut home at the age of 87.The seaplane base was removed from FAA records in 2007.".
