He received a bachelor's degree in architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1911. He then came to Philadelphia, where he earned a second B.S. in architecture in 1912 and a master's degree in 1913, both from the University of Pennsylvania. By 1915 he was employed in the office of his mentor, Paul Cret.He served on the faculties of Carnegie Institute of Technology, Princeton University, Columbia University, Pennsylvania State University, and Swarthmore College.He was elected a Fellow in the American Institute of Architects in 1950.".
