In those days, people from distant lands settled in this village for its great weather, also arrived several families of distinguished Spanish origin. Witness to this are the still existing colonial two-story houses with elegant balconies.Tibasosa acceded in 1781 to the Movement Comunero of Socorro and San Gil, first Independence Uprising. The army left the village to join the troops of General Don Juan Francisco Berbeo of Zipaquira.The population of Tibasosa helped also enthusiastically to the pro-independence cause, marking a great patriotism in the memorable day of Pantano de Vargas. In Tibasosa the great hero Inocencio Chincá died wounded in the Battle of Vargas. On March 30, 1820 the liberator was in Tibasosa, he was heading towards Santa Rosa de Viterbo.".
