- Poadh abstract "Powadh (or Puadh or Powadha) is a region of the Punjab, India and Haryana states in northwest India. It generally lies between the Sutlej and Ghaggar-Hakra rivers and south, south-east and east of Rupnagar district adjacent to Ambala district (in Haryana).One of the dilect of punjabi language is Powadhi. The Powadh extends from that part of the Rupnagar District which lies near Satluj beyond the Ghaggar river up to Kala Amb in Himachal Pradesh in the east, which separates the states of Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. Parts of Fatehgarh Sahib district, and parts of Patiala districts like Rajpura also Panchkula,Ambala and Yamunanagar districts along with Saharanpur and Behat districts of Harit Pradesh are also part of Powadh. The language is spoken over a large area in present Punjab as well as Haryana. In Punjab, Kharar, Kurali, Ropar, Nurpur Bedi, Morinda, Pail, and Rajpura,Ambala,Naraingarh,Kala Amb,Panchkula,Saha,Shahzadpur,Jagadhri,Kalesar,Behat,Saharanpur and Nanautta are the areas where the Puadhi language is spoken and the area itself is claimed as including from Pinjore, Kalka, Pehowa, Kaithal to Bangar area in Fatehabad district which includes even Ambala and Shahabad in it.Powadh is a vast region, consisting of all of and Panchkula district in Haryana and Chandigarh and a big area of south east Punjab, nowadays often wrongly included in Malwa by the media, consisting of Patiala, Mohali, and Ropar districts. It had its own poets even at Akbar's court such as Mai Banno of Banur and more recently Bhagat Asa Ram Baidwan of Sohana. The Dhadd Sarangi and Kavishri way of singing are said to have originated here only and also different types of Akharas such as that of the famous Rabbi Bhaironpuri. Powadh consists only a small quantity of Punjab. The Majha, Malwa, and Doaba make up majority of the Punjab.Majha, Doaba and Malwa are other Punjabi dialect regions. Powadh comprises the districts of Rupnagar, Mohali, and the district around the Ghaggar river and parts of Fatehgarh Sahib district as well as Chandigarh along with several areas of Northern Haryana.The people of the region are known as Powadhis.".
